I would never have guessed there would be a bidding war for the Terminator franchise, and I certainly never would have guessed an indie film producer would get involved:
Yesterday, it looked like Lionsgate would win the property with an outright purchase, with an upfront payment of at least half of the $29.5 million that Pacificor spent to claim the property in a bankruptcy auction. That was until Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Films came in with a bid that was higher. (via Deadline)
Now I can’t stop thinking about a Terminator movie that ditches Schwarzenegger and is directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
UPDATE: Looks like she won! Unfortunately, it looks like Schwatrzenegger is still attached to star. As a creaky old Terminator, I guess.
Oh my god I can’t believe I didn’t know about this! I have $15 million just lying around that I was thinking “What defunct, burnt out, ’80s film franchise could I spend this on?”
Damn! There goes a perfectly good idea: “Terminator Toddlers” cartoon show. I mean, their endoskeletons are made of flesh, right? You obviously have to impregnate human women with rape machines, grow the resultant babies in a lab, hollow them out, stretch them over the titantium infrasctructure, and wait for them to grow to adulthood. Watching them grow, laugh, love, and learn life lessons would be HILARIOUS.
I can’t wait to find out what lame excuse they come up with to explain an old Governator appearing the franchise. I’m putting money on another future setting like Salvation where he’s the human the machines base the Terminator look on. I’m also putting money on that it will suck.
