Podcast #21 – The Bacon: Stephen J. Skelton

We’re back with another exciting episode of The Bacon, where the Film Pigs veer off their regular format to focus in on a particular subject. This episode, we batten down the hatches and steam full speed ahead into Stephen Skelton, even though we know it’s very rude to batten down hatches and run full steam into someone. Insightful questions lead to perplexing answers about how someone could possibly drive band nerds away with something even nerdier, an example of how Roger Moore is awesome and Jean-Claude Van Damme is kind of a dick, and a truly haunting selection for a threesome.

This time, on a very special episode of The Film Pigs Podcast:

  • 0:00:00 – Intro
  • 0:00:46 – The Bacon: Stephen Skelton
  • 0:38:12 – Outro

  1. Skelton is the funniest guy I’ve never met. He’s a full-on me damn comedy NINJA!

My question to Skelton is what game is he working on now? I’d love to see a Skelton-penned RPG or point and click adventure game. I’m imagining a game like Monkey Island, Discworld or Baldur’s Gate full of Skelton’s comedic genius.

Also, where’s my Die Hard 2 commentary?

    1. No games lately, I’ve been doing behind-the-scenes freelance stuff for a while (game designer equivalent of ghostwriting).

However, I do have a idea for a game based on Todd’s audition experiences, which would entail the player going to a casting session, randomly smashing buttons, and hoping the unhelpful casting director hires you (which would be a completely random event). Usually you just end up in the traffic minigame, which is you sitting in wall-to-wall freeway traffic, unable to move, and your only option is to repeatedly honk your horn.

Your Die Hard 2 commentary is now available due to the magic of the holiday season!

  2. I like your view on CGI. In-Camera effects are much harder to pull off but totally worth it. The only filmmaker who does it now is Chris Nolan.

  3. Good episode, guys. I would have liked to have heard a bit more about Skelton’s work in the video game field, but the John Carpenter story was a cracker.

Also, Guillermo Del Toro is another director who is committed to mixing practical effects with CGI. HELLBOY 2 has the greatest practical monster effects ever seen on screen.

    1. I have not tried the DVD version available through Amazon. Is that an edited version? You can get it for maybe three bucks plus shipping if you buy used.
