Podcast #55 – Death of the B Movie

Just under the wire, the Film Pigs are back with a podcast for May! And it’s not even a cheap Bacon episode! Can you believe it? Movie news, a full topic discussion, movie jail, line readings, quizzes, special guest, this episode has everything we normally have and less! Because Falk is working. So it’s just Todd and Skelton. They are old and tired.

This time, on a very special episode of The Film Pigs Podcast:

  • 0:00:00 – Intro
  • 0:03:06 – Movie News
  • 0:09:08 – Host Todd Robert Anderson introduces this episode’s theme: Death of the B Movie
  • 0:28:36 – Movie Jail
  • 0:35:20 – The Nic Cage Memorial Bizarre Line Reading
  • 0:38:12 – Colby Reviews the Movies

  1. Is it wrong that I was able to rattle off the POLICE ACADEMY sequels right off the bat?

I would love to hear Todd’s DVD Collection Part II.

I think the people who should be put in Movie Jail are the ones who greenlit Ant-Man. Talk about diluting the brand. Who next – Blue Beetle? Hawkman? Aqualad?

    Enough INCEPTION bashing!

    1. It’s not wrong, but certainly something to be concerned about.

Like I said, Ant-Man as a super-hero comedy works, which is what I suspect Wright was developing. As a more straightforward super-hero story it will flounder, which is what I think Disney is forcing it to become.

And if someone can do a Blue Beetle movie with the same comic flair that Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire did with their 80s Justice League (International) book, I’m down for that, too!

      Inception blow! Dreamscape rules! SNAKEMAN!

  2. Good episode. And good comments on Ant-Man, Skelton. I think a super-hero comedy by Edgar Wright starring Paul Rudd would’ve been hilarious. On the bright side, it looks like Marvel is still going with comedy guys after Wright left the project (and considered guys like David Wain, not hacks like Happy Madison), so I think Adam McKay could still make it funny.

Also, mainly came here to give Skelton props on his Andy Warhol joke about Colby’s “Washing Machine” movie. That was pretty funny and shockingly highbrow from you guys (especially with Falk gone). Backhanded compliment away!

  3. Question for Falk and wholly unrelated to this podcast:
Watching the new season of Orange is the New Black. Natasha Lyonne says at one point “You tickle me” which is an unusual phrase. It’s also a phrase you’ve used multiple times in podcasts. Did you write that line?
