Todd Slingdog Remembers the Franchises, Part 3: Friday the 13th

Had to do it. It is Friday the 13th. This may be my favorite franchise of all time, not just because the acting is masterful and the scripting tight, but also these movies feature a meticulous attention to detail where the mythology is concerned. Here’s what I remember:

FRIDAY THE 13TH – There’s a bunch of camp counselors and one of them is Kevin Bacon and he wears a Speedo and it is clear he has either a large member or someone jammed a cucumber in there. Also, people were killed by some angry old lady with a dead retarded son. Or something. People smoked pot and had some sex, too, I think. Terminator Franchise Bidding War?

I would never have guessed there would be a bidding war for the Terminator franchise, and I certainly never would have guessed an indie film producer would get involved:

Yesterday, it looked like Lionsgate would win the property with an outright purchase, with an upfront payment of at least half of the $29.5 million that Pacificor spent to claim the property in a bankruptcy auction. That was until Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Films came in with a bid that was higher. (via Deadline)

Now I can’t stop thinking about a Terminator movie that ditches Schwarzenegger and is directed by Kathryn Bigelow.

UPDATE: Looks like she won! Unfortunately, it looks like Schwatrzenegger is still attached to star. As a creaky old Terminator, I guess.

Commentary #38 – Caddyshack (1980)

poster_caddyshack

Here’s a curveball: the Film Pigs do an alternate DVD commentary for a movie they absolutely LOVE*. We do an admirable job of actually talking about the movie instead of quietly watching or just reciting every single line as it’s spoken (although some of that is involuntary, like breathing or growing nose hair). Joining us for his 12th official viewing of Caddyshack is filmmaker and friend of the Pigs, Frank Stokes! So, we’ve got that going for us. Which is nice. (IMDb)

* It’s also an excuse to stare slack-jawed at Cindy Morgan.

TO SYNC WITH MOVIE: Start this commentary 10 seconds after starting movie.

Review – Fast Five

Tonn Slingdog Remembers the Franchises, Part Two: The Fast and The Furious

Here’s what I remember about these five pictures:

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: I remember a lot of drag racing down large thoroughfares and not really understanding how they didn’t get caught by the police or why there were never any pedestrians anywhere. It was a huge ghost city inhabited only by macho dudes with fast cars and dangerously skinny models dressed like cheap hookers. I’m pretty sure I liked it.
